Beveled Extrude

Combined extrusion and bevel operation with real-time interactive control

What is it?

Beveled Extrude is an interactive tool that combines extrusion and beveling into a single operation with real-time visual feedback. Instead of performing separate extrude and bevel operations, this tool lets you define both the extrusion distance and bevel parameters simultaneously, perfect for creating detailed edges and architectural elements.

Access and Shortcuts

  • Pie Menu: Edit Mode section → "Beveled Extrude"
  • Operator: damtools.beveled_extrude
  • Requirements: Edit mode with faces selected
  • Modal Keys:
  • Mouse Move: Adjust extrusion distance
  • Shift + Mouse: Adjust bevel size
  • Ctrl + Mouse: Adjust bevel segments
  • Enter/LMB: Confirm operation
  • Esc/RMB: Cancel

Workflow

  1. Enter Edit mode and select one or more faces
  2. Activate Beveled Extrude from the pie menu
  3. Move mouse to set extrusion distance
  4. Hold Shift and move mouse to adjust bevel size
  5. Hold Ctrl and move mouse to change bevel segments
  6. Real-time preview shows the combined result
  7. Press Enter or Left-click to confirm
  8. Press Esc or Right-click to cancel

Combined extrude+bevel with interactive parameter control and real-time preview

Parameters

Extrusion: - Distance: How far faces are extruded - Direction: Along face normals

Bevel: - Size: Radius of the bevel effect - Segments: Number of subdivisions in the bevel - Profile: Smooth curved transition

Interactive Controls: - Mouse: Primary extrusion distance - Shift + Mouse: Bevel size adjustment - Ctrl + Mouse: Segment count modification

Tips

  • Start with mouse movement to set basic extrusion
  • Use Shift modifier for fine bevel size control
  • Ctrl modifier lets you add detail with more segments
  • Works great for window frames, door panels, and architectural details
  • Combines two operations into one smooth workflow
  • Real-time preview helps visualize final result before committing
  • Ideal for hard surface modeling and detailed mechanical parts

Known Limitations

  • Requires face selection in Edit mode
  • Very high segment counts may impact performance
  • Complex face selections may produce unexpected results
  • Bevel behavior depends on face geometry and normals
