Planar Cut¶
What is it?¶
The Planar Cut tool allows you to cut mesh objects using a face as the cutting plane. It works exclusively in object mode and is ideal for making precise and clean cuts through multiple objects at once.
Access and Shortcuts¶
- Pie Menu:
Manipulation > Planar Cut
- Operator:
damtools.planar_cut
- Modal keys:
Click
→ Select cutting face / Confirm cutSpacebar
→ Confirm cut (in review mode)ESC
→ Cancel operation
Workflow¶
Simple Mode¶
- Select objects to cut
- Activate Planar Cut
- Click on any face to use as cutting plane
- Objects are automatically cut
Review Mode¶
- Select objects to cut
- Activate Planar Cut
- Enable "Review Plane" in operator properties
- Click on any face to use as cutting plane
- Review the highlighted cutting plane
- Click or press Spacebar to confirm
Parameters¶
- Review Plane: Toggle to enable/disable cut preview mode
- Default:
False
- When enabled, allows reviewing the cutting plane before executing the cut
Tips¶
- The cutting face can be from any object, not just the ones being cut
- Use review mode to verify the cutting plane before making complex cuts
- The cutting plane extends infinitely in all directions
- All selected objects will be cut by the same plane
- Cut surfaces are automatically filled
- Objects are automatically separated into individual parts
Known Limitations¶
- Only works in object mode
- Cannot be used with non-mesh objects
- Does not support undo during the modal operation (only after completion)
- Complex geometry might produce unexpected results
