Subdivider

PLACE A HERO IMAGE OR GIF OF THE TOOL HERE

What is it?

Interactive subdivision tool that allows real-time adjustment of subdivision cuts on selected mesh elements. Unlike Blender's standard subdivide operation, this tool provides immediate visual feedback as you adjust the number of cuts using the mouse wheel, making it perfect for finding the optimal subdivision level for your geometry.

Access and Shortcuts

  • Sidebar: EDIT/DIBUJO → Subdivider
  • Pie Menu: EDIT/DIBUJO → Subdivider
  • Operator: damtools.subdivider
  • Modal keys:
  • Mouse Wheel Up/Down → Increase/decrease number of cuts
  • Numbers 1-9 → Set specific number of cuts directly
  • Enter/Space → Confirm subdivision
  • ESC/Right Mouse → Cancel and restore original geometry

Workflow

  1. Enter Edit Mode on a mesh object
  2. Select faces, edges, or vertices to subdivide
  3. Execute Subdivider tool
  4. Use mouse wheel to adjust number of cuts in real-time
  5. Watch the preview update instantly as you change values
  6. Confirm with Enter/Space or cancel with ESC

Parameters

  • Number of cuts: Ranges from 0 to unlimited (practical limit ~20)
  • Real-time preview: Immediate visual feedback of subdivision
  • Selection-based: Only affects currently selected elements
  • Non-destructive preview: Original geometry preserved until confirmation

Tips

  • Start with vertices, edges, or faces selected before activating
  • Mouse wheel provides smooth adjustment of cut numbers
  • Preview updates instantly, allowing precise control
  • Works with any selection type (vertices, edges, faces, mixed)
  • Perfect for finding optimal subdivision levels before committing
  • Use numeric keys (1-9) for precise cut numbers
  • ESC always restores original geometry if you change your mind
  • Combines well with other modeling tools for workflow integration

Suggested Images

  • Edit Mode sidebar with Subdivider button highlighted
  • Before subdivision showing selected elements
  • Mouse wheel adjustment with HUD showing cut count
  • Progressive subdivision examples (1, 3, 5, 8 cuts)
  • Before/After comparison of subdivided geometry
  • HUD overlay showing current controls

Known Limitations

  • Only works in Edit Mode on mesh objects
  • Requires pre-selected geometry elements
  • Large subdivision numbers may impact performance
  • Preview is temporary until confirmation
  • Cannot adjust other subdivision parameters (smoothness, etc.)
